Otago Country 310/9 beat Carisbrook-Dunedin 305/8 by one wicket.
Otago Country hit a six off the last ball of its innings to cap off a remarkable fightback and stun Carisbrook Dunedin in the Dunedin senior competition on Saturday.
After some big hitting from batsmen Brad Rodden (76) and Rhys Phillips (89), Carisbrook set Otago Country 306 for victory.
Stuttering at 74 for six, lower-order batsman Sean Windle went to the crease and blasted 131 runs. He combined with opener Jonathan Homer (112no) in a 205-run partnership to secure an unlikely victory.
With Country needing two runs off the last ball, Carisbrook brought the field in to try to prevent a single, but Homer struck it for six, giving his side its first win of the competition.
Green Island 258/6 beat Kaikorai 152 by 106 runs
Green Island continued its good by beating last season's winner Kaikorai by 106 runs.
Batting first, Green Island got solid contributions from Gregor Croudis (69) and Scott Simpson (44), as the two put on 95 runs for the third wicket.
Lower-order batsmen Ben Patston (46) then hit some late runs to give his side a competitive total of 258.
Kaikorai got off to a good start in its run chase, as opener Ryan Duffy hit 59 runs, before being caught and bowled by Patston.
At 92 for two, Kaikorai was in striking distance of chasing down the total, but some strong bowling from Dion Lobb and Patston helped dismiss Kaikorai for 152, as it lost its last eight wickets for 60 runs.
Lobb took two wickets for 23 runs, and Patston grabbed three wickets for 34 runs.
North East Valley 163/7 beat Albion 162 by three wickets
North East Valley won its second straight game as it beat Albion three wickets.
Daniel Ingham top-scored with 32 not out for Albion.
For North East Valley, bowler James Brinsdon looked impressive in taking three for 36.
North East Valley then knocked off the target inside 40 overs.
Darren Broom anchored his side's innings with 53 runs to ensure his side continued it early season form.
University-Grange 185/3 beat Taieri 180/6 by 7 wickets
University Grange showed it will be a dangerous team this year, as it won its second successive game with ease on Saturday.
Batting first, Taieri set a modest total of 180, with batsmen George Spittle looking the best with 74 runs, before being run out.
University Grange got off to a hot start chasing the total down, before losing its first wicket for 70 runs.
The pick of the batsmen were Michael Bracewell (75) and Ian Butler (48).
