Cricket: Mills to captain Auckland

Kyle Mills will captain Auckland in the absence of fellow international Gareth Hopkins for their Plunket Shield four-day cricket opener against Canterbury starting at Christchurch tomorrow.

With Hopkins on international duty for New Zealand's test team in India, Mills will assume the captaincy and pair up with fellow pace bowler Daryl Tuffey in an all-international opening attack.

Tuffey will join the team on Wednesday after competing in the Hong Kong sixes tournament, and replace a nominated player.

The 13 named today contains two potential debutants at first-class level, Brad and Craig Cachopa.

Wicketkeeper Brad Cachopa will play while batsman Craig Cahopa is contesting a place in the top six.

Team: Kyle Mills (captain), Andrew de Boorder, Andre Adams, Michael Bates, Brad Cachopa, Craig Cachopa, Colin de Grandhomme, Anaru Kitchen, Colin Munro, Jeet Raval, Bhupinder Singh, Greg Todd, Daryl Tuffey.
