Alexandra's Molyneux Park is back on the domestic schedule after a two-year absence.
The picturesque venue lost the right to host top cricket when the pitch fell below what New Zealand Cricket deemed a suitable standard at the end of the 2008/09 season.
But New Zealand Cricket turf manager Ian McKendry yesterday said the pitch had played consistently well during a recent Otago trial match.
Consequently, it is back on the schedule.
Otago Country Cricket Association Chairman Malcolm Jones welcomed the news.
"The Otago Country Cricket Association is thrilled to have top-level cricket returning to Molyneux Park," he said in a press release.
"We are looking forward to hosting both the HRV Cup twenty/20 match on December 27 and a one-day fixture on January 9.
These games give us a chance to add to the proud history of Molyneux Park and it will be great to see the banks full of sun-drenched spectators watching the Otago Volts have a crack at some high-quality opposition."
At Lincoln, Otago posted 335 for nine in its warm-up match with Canterbury.
Aaron Redmond retired undefeated on 70 at lunch, Craig Cumming scored 64 and Derek de Boorder and Michael Bracewell posted scores in the 40s.
Otago coach Mike Hesson was satisfied with the way his batsmen applied themselves.
"The openers [Cumming and Redmond] got us off to a good start, which set the tone," Hesson said.
"It was pretty hard work later on once the ball got a bit soft. But overall it was a good day."
Warren McSkimming strained a stomach muscle on Tuesday but Hesson said the injury was nothing major and would keep him on the sideline for "days rather than weeks".
The match will conclude today.
