A downpour has curtailed play on the third day of the second cricket test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground today.
Heavy rain swept the ground during the final session, forcing the players from the field when Sri Lanka were 157 for two in the second innings, an overall lead of 339.
They were unable to return before stumps were drawn. Captain Kumar Sangakkara (64) and Mahela Jayawardene (23) will resume tomorrow.
There were 11.4 overs left in the day's play when the rain pelted down. Spinners Daniel Vettori (1-36) and Jeetan Patel (1-67) were the wicket takers after Sri Lanka lost openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Tharanga Paranavitana for 33 and 34 respectively.
New Zealand were dismissed for 234 before lunch, in reply to Sri Lanka's first innings of 416, an initial deficit of 182.
