The West Indies have been set 158 to win the rain-affected second one-day cricket international against New Zealand at AMI Stadium today.
The game was reduced to 28 overs per side after a four-hour rain delay.
Resuming on 26 for one, New Zealand stuttered to 152 for eight after losing wickets at regular intervals as the West Indies economical seam bowlers were backed up by accurate fielding.
Jesse Ryder top scored with 32 from 43 balls, indicating the difficulty New Zealand's batsmen had reaching the boundaries via a damp outfield.
New Zealand were 66 for two at the halfway stage of their revised innings and struggled to gain any momentum other than when Jacob Oram slammed a six and consecutive boundaries off the 23rd over bowled by West Indies captain Chris Gayle.
The allrounder departed in the next over for 25, caught in the deep off Fidel Edwards who claimed New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori two balls later for a golden duck when he chopped the ball on to his stumps.
Edwards finished with three for 26 off his maximum allocation of six overs while Grant Elliott added some late impetus with an unbeaten 30 from 27 balls.
The West Indies target was revised upwards under the Duckworth-Lewis method to compensate for the disruption to New Zealand innings. A hailstorn forced the players from the field after 6.5 overs.
