The Otago Sparks’ star trio have all retained their White Ferns contracts.

Suzie Bates, Katey Martin and Hayley Jensen were among the 17 players awarded national contracts yesterday.

Among that group were three players offered contracts for the first time.

Northern Districts all-rounder Brooke Halliday comes in after notching two half-centuries against England last summer.

Canterbury’s Frankie Mackay and Wellington’s Jess McFadyen join her as the newcomers.

Wellington’s Thamsyn Newton returns to the contracted group.

Missing out from last year were Natalie Dodd, Anna Peterson, Holly Huddleston and Katie Perkins.

White Ferns head coach Bob Carter said he was looking forward to an England tour over the winter and was mindful of the women’s World Cup in New Zealand on the horizon.

"I would like to congratulate those players returning but especially those receiving a contract for the first time," Carter said.

"Brooke and Frankie’s performances last season were very encouraging and we’re looking forward to working closely with those two over the winter.

"Both have leadership experience at the domestic level and have plenty to add to the group off the park as well as on it."

He added he was excited to welcome back Newton, while McFadyen had emerged as a top prospect after a strong domestic season.

McFadyen also provided another option as a wicketkeeper.
