Schools Cricket Carnival continues for seventh year

    The seventh annual Queenstown Schools Cricket Carnival is up and running, featuring a mix of young talent from across Otago, Canterbury and even Australia.

    Spread across six grounds -  at Queenstown Events Centre, Wakatipu High School, Millbrook and Jack’s Point - the carnival aimed to keep school cricket alive and kicking.Organiser and founder Russell Mawhinney said it was great for the young players to get experience against teams they usually would not face.

    It was also a good way to get people to explore the area, with entire families travelling with some teams.

    Mr Mawhinney said the tournament was set apart by the location and what Queenstown offered.

    The MVP prize, for example, was a bungy jumping voucher.

    He said the first days of the tournament were used to determine the strength of the teams across 110-over declaration games and T20, before wrapping up with 40-over games on Thursday.
