Three take top points

Valley, Albion and Waitaki Boys’ High School picked up maximum points in Borton Cup cricket in North Otago on Saturday.

At Weston, Valley made 240 all out batting first against St Kevin’s College, which made 144 in reply.

Consistent batting from Jack Price, who scored 51, along with support from George Eldridge (56), Jason Forrest (23), Jake Matthews (24), Andrew Harding (22) and Josh Phipps (34) carried the total through to 240.

Liam Direen, Harry Murphy and Jacob Klemick took wickets for the College side.

Jesse Valpy scored 53 at the top of the order for St Kevin’s with backup coming from Liam Direen (35) and Murphy (21) while bowling for Valley, Shannon Dunnett took three for 16 and Matthews took a five-wicket bag.

Albion maintained its momentum beating Oamaru by 57 runs at Oamaru.

Batting first Albion made 220 for five with Jonty Naylor (64) receiving plenty of encouragement from Henry Godkin (67). Harvinder Sandhu took three for 31.

Sandhu also starred with the bat, top-scoring for Oamaru with 73 as the side was all out for 163.

Waitaki Boys’ High School first XI bowled first against Glenavy and consistent batting by Kurt Thomas, (56 not out), Stafford Adams (24), Ross McCulloch (31) and Zach Graham (26 not out) helped the side through to 216 for seven.

Bowling for Waitaki Boys’, Quinn Wardle took three for 31 and Billie Guyton two for 25.Waitaki Boys’ took up the challenge and with Wardle (47) , Liam Mavor (31) and Matthew Stewart (27) scoring runs, it passed the Glenavy total with four wickets and more than 11 overs in hand.

Bowling for the home side, Thomas took three for 61 off his 10 overs.
