Cromwell held on to beat Queenstown by nine runs in a tense Koford Cup match in Queenstown on Saturday.

The visitors were bowled out for 131 in 36.5 overs. Amrit Gossal (four for 30) and Adam Hubber (two for 15) did the bulk of the damage.

But Inderjeet Singh Waraich (39) and Mandeep Dhaliwal (23) produced valuable cameos to haul their side through to a modest total.

Waraich followed his fine effort with the bat with an even better performance with the ball. He picked up four for 28 from his eight overs and helped seal the narrow win. Sukhdev Singh played a key role as well with two for nine.

Jeremy Morriss did his best to guide Queenstown past the target. He dug in for 32 from 61 balls, and Swaran Sandhu attempted to snatch victory away from Cromwell with an undefeated 28.

Blackstone Hill’s Matt Nevil took three late wickets to deny Wakatipu victory in a dramatic low-scoring fixture in Queenstown.

Set a modest target of 100 for victory, Wakatipu staggered early and often.

The game looked over with Wakatipu slumping to 36 for five, but Gabe White held his end up and kept it in the fight. He battled his way to 39 from 79 deliveries.

However, Nevil picked up three quick wickets to leave White trying to farm the strike and get his side the win.

With just three more needed for victory, he was run out.

Earlier, George Catto top-scored for Blackstone Hill with 35 to help it post 99.

Tim Johnson took four for 10 in an impressive four-over spell, and Regan McIntyre took three for 26.

In the other game, Albion defaulted to Maniototo.
