Serguei Ivanov of Russia won the 14th stage of the Tour de France - a ride marred by the death of a spectator, who was hit by a police motorcycle escorting the riders.

George Hincapie of the United States finished soon after Ivanov in a small breakaway group Saturday and could take the overall leader's yellow jersey off Rinaldo Nocentini of Italy, who trailed in the main pack minutes behind.

Lance Armstrong and 2007 winner Alberto Contador began the day just seconds behind Nocentini. They were also behind the breakaway riders.

A police motorcycle struck a woman who had been crossing the course route early in the 199-kilometer trek from Colmar to Besancon on Saturday, and she later died.

Two other people were injured.
