Five changes to Ferns to play Mexico, US

The Football Ferns squad to play two games against Mexico and one against the United States has been confirmed.

Twenty-four players have been named for the tour, the side featuring five changes from that selected for the previous international window, which registered a win and a loss against Venezuela.

Joining the squad are Hannah Blake (Durham FC), CJ Bott (Phoenix), Katie Bowen (Inter Milan), Gabi Rennie (Eskilstuna United DFF) and Indiah-Paige Riley (Crystal Palace), as head coach Michael Mayne continues to build competition and depth within the squad.

There is no place, however, for Ali Riley.

The 163-cap great recently announced she would be retiring from football after the National Women’s Soccer League season.

"These are three challenging and exciting games, and we’ve selected a strong squad to continue building on what we’ve started this year," Mayne said.

"As we prepare for Fifa Women’s World Cup qualifying in 2026, we always wanted to use the first half of the year to give opportunities to a wide range of players and to implement our new ways of working on and off the pitch.

The Football Ferns’ first game against Mexico is on October 24 at 3pm (NZT) at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City.

The sides will meet again in Ciudad Juarez three days later.

New Zealand will then travel to Missouri to take on the US, the Olympic champions, on October 30.
