Conor Jamison (Chisholm Park) came from behind to beat Cromwell junior Inia Logan on the second playoff hole of the final to win the Otago schoolboys' matchplay title at Chisholm Park yesterday afternoon.
Jamison (18) won his way to the final by beating Jack Turner, Terry Kim and Connor Ross, while Logan accounted for Annabel Evans, Jacob Bleach and Harry Smith.
Logan was the defending champion, having won at the same venue last year, and looked set to retain the title after qualifying top with 71 and 69 on Monday.
The finalists had a close tussle on the outward nine, with Jamison holding a lead of one after the first eight holes.
Logan turned on the pressure with three consecutive birdies to lead by two and he went three in front when Jamison sprayed his drive right at the 12th.
The pair halved the 13th putting Logan three ahead with five holes to play.
But he hooked his iron tee shot into knee-high grass at the par 3 14th and his lead was reduced to two.
Jamison made a comfortable birdie four on the next hole and the match went back to square when Logan failed to get up and down on the penultimate hole.
Both golfers made impressive birdies on the final hole and proceeded to halve the first playoff hole after they were equally wayward.
Logan came up short into a head wind on the second hole and Jamison clinched the win and the title with a regulation four.
