Golf: Snow gets chance for Otago

Chris Snow (St Clair) is the only new cap in the Otago men's golf team which will compete in the Toro interprovincial tournament to be played in Gisborne from November 22 to 26.

Snow, the tour manager at Speight's in Dunedin, started playing golf on the Invercargill Golf Club's Otatara course while a pupil at Southland Boys' High School.

He also played rugby for the school and has continued both sports since leaving school.

This year he played as a prop and a hooker in the Zingari premier team and, despite spending most of his spare time on golf at the moment, is already attending fitness training sessions with a view to playing again next year.

But his time now is devoted to golf as he prepares to fill the No 4 berth in the Otago quintet.

After being named as the reserve for last year's team and playing two games, Balmacewen appretice greenkeeper Tyrone Ratahi will gain his full cap this year having been selected at No 3.

Mitch Bosley (Wanaka) has had a welcome return to form in this year's trials and will return to the team playing at No 5.

The team will be anchored by the St Clair pair of Brent McEwan at No 1 and Andrew Hobbs at No 2.

Simon Hollyer (Wanaka) was a member of the 2010 quintet but has been chosen as team reserve this year.
