The St Clair Saints will host the Otago B52s in one semifinal, and the Otago Bombers will host Chisholm Links in the other, after a relatively uneventful final round in the metropolitan senior A pennant series on Saturday.
At Balmacewen, the Bombers turned the screws on the back nine to finish strongly over the B52s with a 4-2 result.
However, that margin did not reflect how tight the games were with five going at least 17 holes.
Recent rain meant the 11th, The Glen, was out of play so the short par-3 by the club entrance was in play as the final hole.
Duncan Croudis and Ryan Rosevear landed wins for the Bombers before Paul Hubbard scored an upset over Ben Patston on the 17th green to get the B52s on the board.
A strong finish from Callum Judkins and Luke Murdoch effectively sealed the result for the Bombers on the final green, defeating Riki Bush and Lachie Coutts respectively, while Brian Helton finished his first season of senior A round robin in style with a 1-up win over Brandon Hodgson.
At Chisholm Links, the match between the Links and Taieri Lakes scheduled for Taieri Lakes was moved due to ground conditions.
In a tight contest where players battled fading light in the concluding stages, the Links narrowly came out on top, 3-5-2.5.
At No 5, Josh Boath secured the first game for the visitors over Mike Bowman before the Links replied with two wins through Blair Liffiton and John McIntee.
Mackenzie Gibson and Jarrod Mitchell fought out a half while Blair Bennett made things interesting when he earned Taieri’s second win, leaving the No 1s to decide the fixture.
With light fading fast, Jason Pegler drove the 18th green against Hayden Robertson but left a long eagle putt. A three-putt par was good enough to clinch the win for Pegler and the Links.
The St Clair Saints had the week off due to Island Park defaulting.
