Golfing pioneer honoured

Angus Howden (left), the great-great grandson of  Charles Ritchie Howden, presents a trophy and photograph at his ancestor’s inauguration into the New Zealand Golf Hall of Fame, to Otago Golf Club president Aaron Charteris at Balmacewen yesterday.

Charles Ritchie Howden, known as "the father of New Zealand Golf" was credited with starting the game in Dunedin in 1871 on a Mornington course which later moved to the current site at Balmacewen.
