Otago takes 2-point lead in pennants

Otago has taken the outright lead in the metropolitan men’s senior A pennant series after beating Chisholm 4.5-1.5 on the Chisholm Links course 5 on Saturday.

Otago gained three points for the win and now has 16 points and 27 games, ahead of Taieri on 14 points and 21.5 games.

Otago was the only team to win on Saturday; St Clair Blue, Island Park, St Clair Gold and Taieri  halved their matches for one point each.

Otago’s success was helped by No1 Duncan Croudis, who has won all six games, while Tyrone Ratahi is unbeaten with four wins and a half.

Mark Andrews and Hayden Robertson (15) have ensured Taieri is well placed with 100% winning records.

The only  unbeaten player is Chisholm’s Jason Pegler, who has four wins and a half from his five outings.Otago was always in command. Brandon Hodgson and John McIntee won on the 12th green and No6 Luke Murdoch beat Peter Rae 5 and 4.

Pegler posted Chisholm’s only win at the expense of former Canterbury golfer Jason Yoo, while Chisholm captain Mark Collie snatched a half with Ratahi.

Island Park looked set to cause an upset at St Clair going on to the final hole with Michael Smith, Monty Wong and Michael Minty all beating their St Clair Blue opponents.

Square playing the final hole, Michael Wray looked set to add the icing on the cake for the Waldronville club but Conor Jamison holed a tricky 1m putt on the final green to win one up and get his team the half.

St Clair Gold has been languishing at the bottom of the table but scored its first point, halving with Taieri Lakes at St Clair. The Gold team’s tail of Parker Aluesi and Ryan Littlejohn had good wins, while Luke Worthington won the final hole to beat Taieri’s Mat Lee and ensure the half.
