The majority of the first half was played in the middle of the park and resembled a well-oiled drill session, but when Albany's Mat Rooney opened the scoring minutes from halftime, the tempo of the game picked up significantly.
Albany oozed confidence after Rooney's goal and heaped the pressure on Taieri as it took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
When the sides returned to the field, the tempo remained the same and Taieri proved it was up to the challenge.
The passes were slick, the one-on-one battles were impressive and it was not long before Taieri evened the scores with a converted penalty corner from Jared Hewitt.
Taieri sniffed the chance to claim a historic win and continued its impressive display around the park, but Albany's experience in pressure-cooker situations allowed it to hold on to the draw.
While the names Rooney and Hewitt appeared on the scorecard, it was the goalkeepers who provided the foundation from which the attackers could launch.
Albany's Jack Waddell produced his usual clinical defence and did well to hold out a hungry Taieri side, and Tuataras goalkeeper Hayden Himburg played as if his life depended on it.
Himburg has been a standout in Taieri's recent performances and he again put his body on the line with several diving and stick saves to hold out the defending champion.
Taieri player-coach Andrew Mitchell said his side's performance proved it could compete with top sides such as Albany.
Goal-scorer Hewitt said the performance was the best Taieri had played as a team, as it ''cut the dribbling out''.
''It is a bit of a shame that we are doing it this late in the season. Next year we will do it.''
