The New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) is considering bringing the entire Kiwis squad to Auckland for a street parade to celebrate their world champion status.
NZRL general manager Peter Cordtz said interest in the team and the World Cup trophy had been intense since New Zealand's 34-20 toppling of Australia in the final on Saturday night.
He said it was important that as many New Zealanders as possible were able to see and enjoy a trophy of such significance.
"We want everyone to enjoy the achievement and celebrate our win," he said.
"Ever since the cup landed on New Zealand soil on Sunday night there has been huge interest in the trophy. Everyone who sees it wants to touch it, hold it or have a photo taken with it. It seems to have captured everyone's interest." A street parade is a possibility although will be a challenge to organise because the several of the New Zealand players are spread around Australia.
"It's too soon to say what could be achieved but we are looking closely at the possibility," Cordtz said.
"It is, however, a challenging undertaking to put on such an event because of the difficulty in bringing together the players and management at the same time. We hope to have some answers as soon as possible."
The cup was brought home by squad members Manu Vatuvei, Jerome Ropati and Evarn Tuimavave plus team staff and management on Sunday.
It is now in the possession of the NZRL's museum curator Don Hammond and will be house there until the next World Cup scheduled for 2013.
