Motorsport: Hartley takes sixth after drive-through penalty

New Zealand driver Brendon Hartley came away sixth after a wet second race in round two of the 3.5 Renault World Series at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium this morning (NZT).

Hartley was given a drive-through penalty along with nine other drivers for having changed to wet tyres on the starting grid after the authorised deadline, as rain started to fall.

The race was won by Argentine Esteban Guerreri with Italian Daniel Zampieri, one of those penalised, finishing second.

Engine failure ruined Hartley's race yesterday.

He was challenging for the lead, with the gap at less than a second, when his car stuttered, then stopped, five laps from the finish of the 22-lap race, leaving Russian driver Mikhail Aleshin clear to take his second win of the season.

Hartley had started fourth on the grid but improved to second place by lap three. He clocked the fastest lap time of two minutes 05.547 seconds.

Hartley was also sixth in both the opening two races of the first round in Spain last month.
