New Zealand decathlete Brent Newdick has set a personal best score in finishing fourth at an athletics competition in Kladno, Czech Republic.

Newdick's score of 7849 points was a 12 point improvement on his national title total at Waitakere in early February.

The 24-year-old set a personal best 100m of 10.89 seconds during his effort.

It was a second B qualifying performance for Newdick who has already been selected, as a developing athlete, to compete at the world championships in Berlin in August.

At the same meeting Sarah Cowley finished fifth in the heptathlon with a total of 5494 points.
