Drew Schievink will face the biggest challenge of his diving career when he represents New Zealand at an international invitation event in Singapore next month.

Schievink (12), a pupil at John McGlashan College, is a member of the Diving New Zealand junior elite team.

He has competed in Australia in the past but at the Singapore event he will be against the best divers in his age-group from Asia as well.

Schievink has also been named in the New Zealand schools team to compete at the Australian Schools Games in Adelaide in September.

He won a gold medal in the 1m dive when he made his international debut at the Australian championships in 2011.

He doubled his trips to the podium when he won gold medals in the 1m and 3m at the Australian championships in Adelaide last year.

Schievink gained selection for these events at the New Zealand autumn championships in Hamilton earlier this month.

He won a gold medal in the boys aged 13 and under synchronised 3m event with Nathan Brown (Auckland) with a score of 121 points.

Schievink gained personal-best scores when he won silver medals in his age-group in the 1m springboard event (251.01 points), 3m (256.05) and platform (195.40).

These performances qualified Schievink to compete at the New Zealand open and age-group championships in August.

Rebecca Fisher (19), a medical student at the University of Otago, gained merit awards in the open event gold skills level in the 1m (115.50 points), 3m (109.50) and platform (102). Her overall merit score was 327 points.

Columba College pupil Christine Wierda (14) gained a merit award in the silver skills level in the women's open 1m (176.50 points), 3m (104). Her overall merit score was 372.50 points.
