Tied for third place on 18 points were Canterbury Country, Dunedin Metro, and Otago Country.
As the 14 tournament teams headed into the final day of competition yesterday, the top four were closely aligned, with Nelson, Dunedin Metro, and Otago Country each on 17 points and Christchurch Black on 16.
After the final round of matches, Christchurch Red and Marlborough were tied in fifth place with 17 points, followed by South Canterbury (16), Invercargill Metro (13), Buller (11), Mid Canterbury (10), North Otago (9), West Coast (9), and Southland Country (5).
For winning, Nelson took home the Sir Jack Newman Trophy.
The HRV-sponsored tournament lasted five days, and its 14 teams represented the South Island's top year 7 and 8 cricketers.
Yesterday tournament organisers also announced the Otago primary school representative team, which will play Dunedin's under-15 side later this month.
The Otago team will have two days in Dunedin - one training on January 25, and the second playing Dunedin under-15 on January 26.
