Toomey is a former fitness trainer for the All Blacks and Team New Zealand yachting crews and is the acting chief executive for High Performance Sport New Zealand.
Toomey has also been the general manager of Sport and Recreation New Zealand's high performance programme.
Snow Sports New Zealand chairman Tony Hannon said in a media release this week the board was thrilled with the calibre of applicants for the chief executive's role.
The role has been vacant since former chief executive Ross Palmer resigned after the 2010 season.
"Over the last year, we've been working hard on a strategy to take snow sports to a whole new level. We have big plans, including getting the sport on to a better commercial footing and the eventual development of a winter national training centre," Hannon said.
Toomey said he had developed a love of skiing during university days and was looking forward to becoming involved in snow sports again.
