Saints is on top of the table in the post-Christmas competition after it completed two wins from as many games on Saturday.

It beat Waverley 10-6 in a game which went for more than two hours and then disposed of Ellis Park 12-6.

In the other games, Ellis Park beat Cardinals 7-3 and Dodgers downed Waverley 10-0.

Saints and Waverley started out aggressively in their match, each hitting three runs in the opening inning.

But Saints went ahead in the fourth inning with Connor O'Neill and Mitchell O'Neill scoring runs.

In the next inning, Jamie Jones and Sam Jones scored runs to give the ascendancy to the Saints.

Waverley hit two runs in the final innings but it was not enough, with Tim Howard pitching well for Saints.

In its match against Ellis Park, it was again the middle innings that made the difference for Saints.

Ellis Park was ahead after three innings but Saints then piled on the pressure, hitting 10 runs in the next three innings.

Ellis Park tried to get back into the match but it was too far behind.

Ellis Park did score a win over Cardinals, thanks to some big hitting in the middle of the match.

Cardinals conceded seven runs in two innings in the middle of the game and, although it hit three runs in the fifth inning, it was too much of a hill to climb.

Peter Mathieson pitched well for the winning team.

Dodgers made it look easy over Waverley, which is still finding its way at this level.

The game was called off after four innings as the score mounted, with Dodgers pitcher Ban Watts not conceding a hit.

Club softball takes a rest next week when Dodgers, Saints and Cardinals travel to Invercargill for an intercity tournament.
