Christchurch City Weightlifting junior lifter Saxon Gregory-Hunt hit 307kg in combined lifts in the 94kg weight category, breaking his own New Zealand junior records set at a club competition back in April.
Gregory-Hunt lifted 137kg in the snatch, beating his previous mark of 135kg, and improved his clean and jerk personal best to 170kg, up from 168kg.
Otago Amateur Weightlifting Association lifters got among the medals too, particularly in the female category.
Hannah Perkins lifted 40kg in the snatch and 48kg in the clean and jerk to win gold in the junior category of the 58kg weight class, while Sarah Cockroft lifted a combined total of 69kg in the senior category.
Bailey Lovett took control of the junior division in the 63kg weight class, snatching 50kg and clean and jerking 65kg, to hit 115kg in her combined lifts.
Fellow Otago lifter Grace Schrader was successful in the junior section of the 69kg weight class, lifting 47kg and 62kg for an overall total of 109kg.
Gregory-Hunt was named the best overall male lifter at the championships, while Southland lifter Sheena Phillips - who raised 130kg in the 63kg weight class at the senior level - was named best overall female lifter.
The championships attracted 45 athletes from Southland, Otago and Canterbury.
