Presidential gets to the line ahead of Miri (9, centre) and Indefinite (inner) in the c0 and faster trot at the Forbury Park trials yesterday.

There was almost no chance of records being broken at yesterday's trials, as weather around Otago caused late scratchings and left the track slushy.

Just eight horses lined up after snow forced Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Jude Knight to withdraw their runners, and the Bruce Negus-trained Beautiful Girl was scratched yesterday morning.

The small fields were not conducive to quick times, and the horses appeared in no hurry, either.

The quickest heat of the day was from the Craig Buchan-trained pacer Boucle, who sprinted clear of the trotter Spin Doctor by 10 lengths to pace the 2200m in 3 minutes flat.

The most competitive heat of the day was won by maiden trotter Presidential, who got home by half a length over Miri, with Indefinite making up ground to run third.

However, the heat was run in a pedestrian time of 3.17.0 for the 2200m, making it possible for Indefinite to catch up after trying to switch in to a pace twice.
