Inferno and The Glitzy One have been keeping each other company on the training track, but the two mares find themselves jumping from adjacent gates in the 2147m listed feature.
Both are drawn in close, with Inferno jumping from barrier 2 and The Glitzy One from barrier 3. Inferno will be carrying the top weight of 59kg.
Inferno's co-trainer, Brian Anderton, said the daughter of Yamanin Vital had worked twice with The Glitzy One during the week after she finished ninth over the sprint distance at Wingatui on March 9, where she was ''outspeeded'', Anderton said.
The Riverton Cup field also includes Ridley, who continues his rise through the grades following his win in the open handicap at Wingatui earlier this month.
He has drawn out wide at 12 and will carry 56.5kg, while Elite Street will be aiming for her fifth win in a row, with 54kg on her back.
The Boys (race 7) will be back at barrier school this morning as the Andertons seek to rectify her bad barrier manners, which have flared up in her last two races in particular.
''She's cost herself both times by being slow away so we're just hoping we've got that sorted,'' he said.
After doing everything right to win at Omakau on March 1, she became fractious in the stalls at Wingatui on March 9 and 21, so a little more education was in order, Anderton said.
''It's going to be done [today] actually - close to the races so that she won't forget,'' he said.
''We'll just put her in [the gates] and make her stand there.''
Secret Guru (race 5) impressed with his easy win on debut at Omakau, but was scratched at Wingatui on March 21.
Anderton said the son of Gallant Guru had done well since the Omakau win and Courtney Barnes would team up with the 4yr-old.
Anderton was pleased with the run of Blue `N' Gold at Wingatui last Thursday after gaps proved difficult to find for jockey Kylie Williams in the rating 75 over 2200m.
''She ran a good gutsy race and stuck on well,'' he said.
Blue 'N' Gold had been racing in tight quarters and Williams had not been able to get going on the horse as soon as she wanted to.
Tommy Tucker had recovered from the firm surface and tough run he had at Wingatui on March 9, Anderton said.
''He had a shocking run in his last start, but he was feeling the ground.
''He's definitely right again now.''
Gold Leaf (race 1) drops back in grade after racing in rating 75 company at Wingatui last week, where he was laying in for the last 250m of the race.
He has drawn in the middle of the gates at barrier 7.
Anderton also confirmed Shankar Muniandy had received clearance from Immigration New Zealand and was free to ride again from today. He would kick back into race riding next week.
