Racing: First win on own account

Steven Kellow had his first training win in a sole capacity when Spark It Up won at her first start yesterday at Washdyke.

The 4yr-old Spectatorial-Smokey Lady mare raced by the Pegasus No 2 syndicate on lease from breeder Kay Hood, was at odds of 36-to-one.

Kellow took out a sole licence after winning 18 races in partnership with Kevin Hughes in the 2009-10 season.

The winners included Aussieaussieaussie, Crystal Duke and Lil' Monster.

He trains from his property at Avonhead.

Spark It Up was ridden by Casey Lunn, who is apprenticed to Ross Beckett at Riccarton.

Ross Doherty rode both hurdles winners yesterday - Aronsay and The Sydney Express.

Aronsay, the winner of nine races on the flat, was having his first start over jumps.

Chasuble won a 1600m maiden flat race first up yesterday for owner Kevin Hickman and trainer Brian Court.

Chasuble is a 4yr-old gelding by King's Chapel and one of two foals left by Silk Domaine before she died.

Chasuble was ridden by David Walsh, who rode Sweet Domaine in her only win, a 2100m maiden on a heavy track at Paeroa in 2006.

The Octagonal-Balmain mare was trained by Murray Baker. Hickman, who races Silent Achiever, also bred a Lucky Unicorn filly, named Silk Chardonnay, from Silk Domaine. She is a 3yr-old.
