Tanique, who changed hands for $400 the previous day, collected a $2125 stake for new owner and trainer Marty Larter with a maiden win at Rangiora yesterday.
The 6yr-old mare has been with the Aylesbury trainer about four weeks.
She transferred from Springston trainer Kevin Lancaster, who bought Tanique from Brighton owner-trainer Brian O'Connor after her previous race in June.
Tanique had 33 starts for O'Connor over 10 months from August, 2007 with her best effort a fourth at Gore in September last year.
O'Connor took over Tanique as a late 4yr-old.
Tanique had qualified as a pacer at Winton in November, 2005 when trained by Murray Brown at Invercargill.
She was subsequently trained there by Owen Lawrence.
"I thought she looked cheap and maybe I could win a race with her and lease her out as a broodmare. She has a pedigree that would get a foal into the premier sale," Larter said.
"They came home in 27 for the last quarter today so on that she could win another race."
Tanique overcame a second line draw to win over 2000m from a standing start yesterday.
"I have given her a couple of standing start work-outs and she has finished second each time. All her other races have been from the mobile gate."
Tanique is by Holmes Hanover from Rosie Franco and a sister to winners Franco Roll On and Senorita Franco and half-sister to Franco Regent (1.56 in Australia).
Holmes Hanover was the leading sire of broodmares last season.
Larter has won races with Living Blue Boy and Maybe Russte in recent seasons after taking them over from other stables.
Maybe Russte finished second and Living Blue Boy fourth behind Tact Lizzie at Addington last Friday.
Living Blue Boy is engaged at Orari on Saturday. He won there in December, 2006.
Maybe Russte had not raced for 10 months when she won first up for Larter at Addington last season. She won at Rangiora in August.
•Kaye At Quinns, a workout winner at Rangiora on Saturday, is now trained by David and Catherine Butt.
Kaye At Quinns, who has not raced for four months, won five races when trained by Reg Curtin.
