Racing: Lochinvar Brando lives up to the talk

The omen for last night's $21,000 New Zealand Stayers' Cup at Addington may have been a brief cameo by greyhound trainer Denis Schofield on TV One's Breakfast yesterday morning.

Schofield appeared on a segment called Take Me Home, in which he showed reporter Tim Wilson around his Devonport home.

Schofield got talking about Lochinvar Brando, the winner of the group 1 Silver Collar distance race in Auckland last month but it was the dog doing the talking last night as he used box 1 perfectly in the group 1 732m feature.

Lochinvar Brando jumped well and settled in behind Deanne's Fantasy with a lap to go before taking up the lead in the last half of the race and winning by three-quarters of a length over a brave Thrilling Logic.

Favourite Little Teegan was slow away and finished fifth.

Earlier, Dream Collector was dominant winning the South Island Championship over 520m by 8 lengths in a swift 29.89sec.
