Racing: Mare only Otago hope in Coupland's

Wingatui mare The Solitaire is the sole Otago hope in the nominations for the group 2 Coupland's Mile at Riccarton in November.

The daughter of O'Reilly is the equal top-rated horse in the nominations at 105 along with group 1 winner Nashville, and her Wingatui trainer, Steven Anderton, will be looking to go one better after her flying finish for second in last year's edition.

If the 7yr-old lines up in the 1600m feature on the middle day of the New Zealand Cup Week carnival, it will be her third attempt at claiming the race for her owners and breeders, the Dennis brothers.

She placed fourth in the 2012 running before last year's second.

Swiss Alps caught the eye in his only run as a 2yr-old and is among the nominations for the 3yr-old male feature during Cup Week, the group 1 Two Thousand Guineas over 1600m.

The son of Swiss Ace was a long last out of the gates at Oamaru in June but put in a huge run to win for trainers Brian and Shane Anderton.

He is one of 105 nominations for the classic, with last season's Karaka Million and Diamond Stakes winner Vespa the highest rated galloper.

Trainer Steven Prince has the sole Wingatui nomination in the One Thousand Guineas with Edelweiss. The Edenwold filly had her first start at Ashburton on Friday, finishing 12th.
