Robinson has ridden Finian's Rainbow in two of his five wins. He was aboard the horse when he won a maiden race over 2000m on a slow track at Riccarton in June 2008.
He rode the 6yr-old three starts back when he won over 2500m on a heavy track at Riccarton by five and a-half lengths.
The Monolith gelding followed that with a 13-lengths win in an open 2500m on a heavy track at Riccarton in the hands of James McDonald. Robinson did not ride Finian's Rainbow in that race as he had a previous commitment to Gasnier.
Finian's Rainbow was unplaced at his last start in the Kiwifruit Cup (2170m) on a slow track at Tauranga on June 20 in the hands of Tasha Collett. He was tailed off early in that race and beat two home.
Robinson did not have the mount at Tauranga as he was riding at Riccarton the same day.
"He did not get into the race at Tauranga as the track was too good for him. He's a real mudder and should get conditions to suit tomorrow," Robinson said last night.
"Pam [Robson] the trainer, took him to Tauranga hoping to get a heavy track. They had very little rain and they just went too fast for him."
Robinson said the gelding had settled in well in the north and had worked well since.
"I think he will find the heavy conditions at Trentham to his liking and I expect him to go a good race," Robinson said.
Robinson last rode at Trentham when he finished third on the Ross Beckett-trained Titisgittin in the Thompson Handicap in March last year.
