She may be named Who Knows, but there is no doubt the Washington VC mare has been worth the wait after she qualified as a 6yr-old at the Forbury Park trials yesterday.

The full-sister to Storm Light (eight wins) was showing promise at the workouts three seasons ago before she struck fetlock problems.

Who Knows had been in the care of North Taieri trainer Stu Campbell, who jogged her up before sending her to beach trainers Jonny Cox and Amber Hoffman for this preparation.

''She had problems with a fetlock so we turned her out,'' Campbell said.

''She won all three workouts [in early 2011] and she looked like she was going to be really smart.''

Luck was not on the side of Campbell or the mare's owner, Joe Thompson, when they decided to give her another chance.

''She came back in again and puffed up in the other tendon so we turned her out again,'' Thompson said.

''Stu kept saying she's got as much ability as her sister.''

That talent was on display yesterday as she speared to the lead ahead of stablemate Dark Dana and was never caught, pacing the 2200m in 2.50.1.

Cox was happy to give Who Knows a spot in their stables about two months ago.

''She's always had the ability but she's probably just gone off a little bit,'' Cox said.

''We were hoping to have her at the trials when they were cancelled a couple of weeks ago.

''She's probably had to do a couple more weeks than she should have, so she'll just go to the paddock now for a month or six weeks off.''

Another pacer looking to make his mark is Torpedo, who was an impressive winner in a c0 mobile pace.

The half-brother to Trojan has started once for a sixth at Gore last month, but co-trainer Geoff Knight has a bit of time for the son of Courage Under Fire.

''He's only a 3yr-old and his brother never came right until he was 4,'' Knight said.

''He's a work in progress but I do like him. He's getting better and better each time we go somewhere.''

Torpedo is entered in a c0 mobile pace for 3yr-olds at Forbury Park on Friday.

Miss Pegasus was back in form with her last-gasp win over stablemate The Silver Fox in the c1 and faster trot, but trainer Phil Williamson is still battling to figure her out.

He has her entered at both Forbury Park and Addington this week but the 5yr-old would need to ''improve a lot'' to feature in the finish, Williamson said.

''She's not been herself for a while - she's been a shadow of herself.

The Silver Fox will possibly have a run on his home track at Oamaru on May 18 and yesterday's c0 trot trial winner Very Persuasive could also be targeted for a start at Oamaru, Williamson said.

Pocket Wash was fully extended as she slid inside the 2yr-old qualifying time by 2sec.

The daughter of Washington VC and Pocket Filler was pushed along early and tired in the straight, but deserved to qualify after having no other horses in sight for much of the race.

Her trainer-driver, Craig Buchan, was pleased she qualified after she missed by 0.1sec on March 31.

''We'll turn her out now and give her a chance to get a bit stronger,'' he said.

Sunnivue Bay Boy beat a smart free-for-all field including Belkmyster in 2.47.0, while Mako Banner warmed up for his assignment at Forbury Park on Friday with a neck victory over King Louie in 2.53.0.
