Trainer Michael Daly has ruled out the Grand National Hurdles for Numero De Lago, a nine-and-a-half-length winner of the restricted open hurdles at Washdyke yesterday.

Numero De Lago had won his other start over hurdles at Oamaru.

"He won't be going to the National Hurdles," Daly said.

"I would look at the Sydenham Hurdles at the National meeting and there is an open hurdles at Washdyke next month."

Daly had not planned to start Numero De Lago yesterday.

"I felt there was a couple in the field that could beat him but he had the opposition off the nickel a long way from home."

Daly has Aronsay ready to qualify has a hurdler. Aronsay won the Waimate Cup at his last start.

Daly won a maiden flat race yesterday with Cloudy Pete, one of two wins for jockey Lisa Allpress. The other was Flying Storm. Allpress is back level with Matthew Cameron at the top of the national jockeys' premiership with 152 wins. She has good mounts at Trentham today. Cameron is at Ruakaka.

• The Golden Slipper winner Pierro heads betting on the first group one race of the new Australian racing season, AAP reports.

In TAB Sportsbet's opening market on the Golden Rose, Pierro has been made the $3 favourite for the $1 million race.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt has earned his place at the top of Golden Rose markets on the back of a six-start unbeaten 2yr-old record.

Despite starting favourite in just two of those wins, Pierro emerged as Australia's premier juvenile when he completed Sydney's 2yr-old triple crown with Golden Slipper, Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes wins.

All Too Hard, a half-brother to Black Caviar, who finished second to Pierro in the Sires', occupies the next line of betting at $4.

Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready, who started favourite in the Golden Slipper before finishing third, is on the third tier at $6.

Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland is on the $17 line with Your Song.

Your Song earned a short break before being prepared for the Golden Rose with a decisive Rosehill win last Saturday.

First acceptances were taken this week for the Golden Rose, which will be run over 1400m at Rosehill on September 15.
