He will require a further clearance from his doctor and the medical adviser for NZTR before riding in races.
"Over the next six weeks I will be easing back into full-time riding and just seeing how I go," Walker said.
Walker suffered serious head injuries when he fell over a bluff when pig hunting in remote King Country bush on May 20. He was taken by helicopter to Taranaki Base Hospital.
He was transferred to Auckland City Hospital where he drifted in and out of consciousness while medical staff stabilised his injuries. He then began rehabilitation.
Walker maintained his position at the leading jockey for the 2007-08 season with 173 winners and $2.9 million in prizemoney. He topped the premiership in 1999-2000 with 131 wins and 2000-01 with 182.
• The hearing of a charge against jockey Chris Johnson of failing to ride a horse on its merits in a race at Wingatui was adjourned yesterday.
Johnson pleaded not guilty to a charge laid by chief stipendiary steward Cameron George of not giving Vagabond every chance at Wingatui on October 17. Vagabond finished fourth.
The hearing, in Wellington, was adjourned pending further submissions from John Tannahill, who was representing Johnson.
The Judicial Control Authority representatives indicated they would deliver a decision tomorrow week.
