Storm Light to race in Sydney

Storm Light, the winner of eight races, has joined the Menangle stable of David Thorn.

Her owners, co-breeder Joe Thompson and his wife Raeleen, of Moeraki, decided to race the 6yr-old in Australia for the better opportunities.

The daughter of Washington VC and Abararka has also recorded eight placings in her 39 starts for stakes of $66,707.

Stewart Campbell, the North Taieri trainer, prepared Storm Light for seven of her wins and Robert Dunn for her last success.

Campbell said the reasons for sending the mare to Australia were the higher stakes, she would be well-assessed compared to New Zealand and the big Menangle track would suit her.

• Barney Rubble, an impressive winner at his only start, has been sold to clients of the Lance Justice stable at Melton, in Victoria.

The Life Sign-Peebles 4yr-old won at Ascot Park on May 19 for co-owner, trainer and driver Graeme Thomas of Invercargill, who raced the gelding with his daughter Mary-Jane.

• Better To Be Bad, the winner of five of her 14 starts and placed second on four occasions, was turned out when swelling in a hind fetlock was detected after she raced at Winton on May 27.

Trainer Steven Ashton intended to race her in the Golden Girls Final at Forbury Park last Friday night.

She recorded 1.55.1 when second to Hayleys Delight over the mile at Winton.

Ashton said she will have a two-month spell.

Ashton and driver Jonny Cox hold the mare in high regard.

Her focus next season will be on the feature races for mares at Addington.
