Bayfield sculler wins junior world title

Eva Hofmans has claimed a world title.

The Bayfield High School rower won gold in the quadruple sculls with her New Zealand crew at the junior world championships in Tokyo.

Alongside Rebecca Leigh, Shakira Mirfin and Phoebe Trolove, she helped pull away through the second half the race.

The crew held a comfortable lead over second-placed Germany from 1000m.

It carried on to finish in 6min 54.32sec, 2.39sec ahead of Germany.

Romania was third.

The men's quad, which included Otago Boys' High School's Ben Mason, finished sixth in its final.
