Nine Kiwi crews qualify for rowing world cup A finals

Nine New Zealand crews were to contest A finals at World Rowing Cup III repechage and semifinals late yesterday and early this morning.

The women's eight, four, pair, single and lightweight double had all secured lanes in the A final, as had the men's eight, pair, single and lightweight double.

Racing returned to a six-lane format on day two in Rotterdam, after severe weather caused a one-lane time trial format for heats on Saturday.

Needing a top-three finish in their semifinal, world champions Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler crossed the line second behind Australia, who they were to face again in the A final of the women's pair.

Davina Waddy, Kelsi Walters, Eve Macfarlane and Phoebe Spoors were second in their repechage of the women's four to move to the A final.

In-form single sculler Emma Twigg easily won her semifinal and will start the A final as the the fastest qualifier.

The women's lightweight double scullers, Jackie Kiddle and Zoe McBride, won their semifinal to move to the A final.

In the men's pair, Michael Brake and Tom Murray also won their heat to reach their A final.

Matthew Dunham and Harrison Somerville needed a top-three finish in the lightweight men's double to progress to the A final.

They achieved that goal by finishing second to Norway.

Single sculler Robbie Manson was also in an A final after finishing second in his semifinal.

The New Zealand men's eight of James Lassche, Hamish Bond, Shaun Kirkham, Mahe Drysdale, Brook Robertson, Philip Wilson, Matt Macdonald, Stephen Jones and coxswain Sam Bosworth secured a place in the A final, thanks to a repechage win.
