1. Favourite rugby memory?
That’s easy to answer. We had our centennial last year, and we played Kai and we were down 20 with 20 minutes to go. The game pretty much ended with a penalty 25m out, and I slotted it to win. It really set the tone for the night.
2. Hardest opponent?
It’s always been a good rivalry with Kai. There’s a trophy on the line and it’s always one of those tit-for-tat battles.
3. What rugby player do you admire and why?
I was always a fan of Ben Smith. My position, obviously. Never the flashiest but someone who did his job and you could always rely on him to step up in big moments.
4. What do you do to relax?
Some golf, probably too many beers, and just anything outdoors.
5. If Jared Hayes is cooking, what are we eating?
Lately I’ve been cooking up Big Mac wraps — just mince, lettuce, red onion, burger sauce and cheese in a wrap. It suits me.
