Marist club rugby player Sam Downing. PHOTO: SUPPLIEDFive questions for Marist first five Sam Downing. 1. Favourite rugby memory? Probably just going back to school First XV days at Verdon College down here in Invercargill. Just playing with my friends there. 2. Hardest opponent? Jakob Harrex. He plays for Pirates Old Boys, and I also played against him growing up in some school games. Just a hard man to put down. Doesn’t stop pumping those legs. 3. What rugby player do you admire and why? Jimmy Cowan. Obviously a Southland legend. I grew up playing halfback and I looked up to him. 4. What do you do to relax? I’m a big sports guy. So watching any sort of sport — I love the Warriors, the Stags, Highlanders, Black Caps. A bit of everything. 5. If Sam Downing is cooking, what are we eating? Spag bol. Nice and basic but it gets the job done.
