Ben and Owen Franks are the latest set of brothers to play for the All Blacks, a trend which started more than 125 years ago.

William and Edward Millton, of Canterbury, were picked in 1884 to play for a New Zealand side which travelled to New South Wales.

Like the Franks, they played in the forwards, and were the first of what is now 41 sets of brothers to play for the national side.

Other sets of brothers who have played for the All Blacks include Stan and Colin Meads, Robin and Zinzan Brooke, and Ginger, Mark and Doc Nicholls.

Ben Franks, who was born in Melbourne, is actually already an All Black, though he does not have a test cap to his name.

His only All Black appearance was against Munster in the 2008 tour.

A foot injury ruined his season last year.

His younger brother - by just under four years - Owen has had a rapid rise up the ranks, and at 22, almost a pup in propping ranks, played nine tests last year, and is being seen as a cornerstone of the All Black scrum for the next few years.
