The new six-person board was to be announced yesterday but it has been delayed for a couple of days.
The board is being picked by a selection panel, a process which came out of a new constitution brought in by the union earlier this month.
After only being named two weeks ago, the selection board has had a whirlwind time, going through the applications, conducting interviews and then picking the board.
At a union special general meeting at the start of the month, union change manager Jeremy Curragh had indicated May 15 as the day for the new board to be appointed but he did say at the time that date was always flexible.
Applications for the board did not close until May 4, so the four-man selection team had just over a week to do its job.
They had indicated to Curragh another couple of days were needed to finalise the board.
The panel was made up of New Zealand Rugby Union representative Bob Field, Dunedin deputy mayor Chris Staynes, former NZRU councillor and ORFU chairman John Dowling and Otago Cricket Association chief executive Ross Dykes. Field is the chairman of the panel.
Once the new board was selected the old board would resign.
The union was required to adopt a new constitution as part of an agreement with other parties to stave off liquidation.
The new board would not be elected by clubs as previously and would instead be appointed by a selection panel.
The new board would consist of just six members, down from the 11 members of the current board.
A chairman and deputy chairman of the new board would be elected at the board's first meeting, which should take place sometime before the end of the month.
Yesterday was also the day when the heads of agreement between major parties was finalised.
The parties had agreed on the fundamentals in March when the union called off attempts to go into liquidation.
But this may also take a few more days then expected.
Current board chairman Wayne Graham and deputy chairman Laurie Mains are not seeking selection to the new board.
