Dan Carter has been accused of asking for "crazy money" by Toulon rugby club owner Mourad Boudjellal.

Boudjellal said in a column for French newspaper L'Equipe this week that the All Blacks first five was asking for $NZ2.2 million a year to return to France after next year's World Cup.

Boudjellal, who has spent millions to take Toulon out of the French second division and into the European clubs championship said Carter had gone too far in his wage demands.

"Is this reasonable -- 1.2 million euros for Dan Carter a season for a three-year contract. Everyone is put off by that price.

"In the current climate of rugby, this has crossed the line," said Boudjellal who lured Tana Umaga to the club in 2007 for a three-year stint which ended this year with the former All Blacks skipper returning to a player/coach role with Counties Manukau for the national provincial championship.
