The Otago Rugby Supporters Club will celebrate turning 40 tonight but it might be its last birthday.
The club is down to about 60 members but has planned a reunion to mark the milestone and 80 guests are expected.
''I'm quite pleased about that considering our membership this year is down to about 60,'' life member Jim Shanks said.
''It is a pretty sad state of affairs at the moment.
''We've only been getting about a dozen people during games, which is not too good. And we were talking ...
about maybe going into recess.
''It will be shame if that happens. I'm hoping there is a glimmer of light. But at the moment the money it is costing us to be at [Forsyth Barr Stadium] is coming out of our reserves.
''The only way we can make money now is by running raffles or through subs and we are trying to keep the subs low to encourage people to come.
''We can't have our own bar or catering [at the stadium] ... we don't have a point of difference any more.''
Otago Rugby Football Union general manager Richard Kinley will be a guest speaker at the reunion.
