Flying wing Paul Tupai scored two tries to keep Pirates at the top of the Dunedin premier rugby competition after two rounds.

Pirates gave a sparkling display to score four tries at Montecillo to beat Zingari-Richmond 28-23.

Last year Pirates finished bottom of the competition but they have been rejuvenated this year by their coach and former All Black Paul Miller.

Pirates share the lead with Varsity A. The students continued their winning way by beating Harbour 31-22.

The other unbeatable teams after two rounds are Southern that had to work hard to beat Green Island 38-31 while last year's champions Taieri beat Dunedin 28-19.

The scores were: Taieri 28, Dunedin 19; Kaikorai 34, Alhambra-Union 23; Pirates 28, Zingari-Richmond 23; Southern 38, Green Island 31; University A 31, Harbour 22.
