The top seeds were untroubled to beat the second seeds in both singles finals at the national 12-and-under indoor championships at the Edgar Centre yesterday.

Thomas Petersen, of Wellington, beat Connor Williamson, of Auckland, 6-2, 6-3, when he settled better after a nervous start by both boys and continued his series of straight-sets wins.

Olivia Smith, of Canterbury, beat her provincial rival Chanista Ampornachariya 6-2, 6-1.

She used her height and strength advantage to good effect and was never really troubled in taking the final.

The diminutive ten-year-old Te Kani Williams, of Auckland, beat Wanaka's Tom Russell 6-3, 6-3 in the play-off for third and fourth.

Russell had earlier upset the higher-seeded Logan Benseman, of Hawkes Bay, in a long three setter before losing to Williamson at the semifinal stage.

Naea Albert, of Wellington, won the third place from Natasha Dickison, of Canterbury, while Sarah Allen, of Southland, was runner-up in the consolation event.
