The Port Chalmers Yacht Club hosted the South Island Noelex 22 championships in which a dozen yachts competed.
Six races took place over the two days and although racing had to be suspended when a 40-knot wind came through, the event passed without any major drama.
The Noelex 22 was designed in 1969 from a design intended to be a one-off, family day-sailer and restricted cruiser. However, it blossomed into a production boat that was both tough and fast around a race course.
The event was won by Alex Bruce, of Dunedin, in Charade. In second was Tristain Ormsby, of Lyttelton, in his boat Hardcore Pawn while Chris Kirkland, of Dunedin, was third in Pollystripper.
The national championships for the class would be hosted by the Port Chalmers Yacht Club in February along with the national championships for the Ross 780 class.
