Emergency services were called to Super Liquor on Waimairi Rd, Ilam, about 10.45am after a car was driven into the shop, damaging the entrance.
No one was injured in the crash, including the driver.
Waimairi Rd Super Liquor manager Chris Jamieson said he got a big fright when the car smashed into the front of the shop.
Mr Jamieson, a colleague and two sales representatives were in the shop at the time.
He said it was "lucky there were no injuries".
