Isaac Trevis, who now lives in Wellington, will be one of 89 match officials - 21 referees, 42 assistants, 20 video match officials and six support referees - from 45 countries to officiate matches at the Olympic Football Tournaments Paris 2024.
It will be the second global event Trevis has attended after he appeared at the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2019.
Trevis began his refereeing career in Taranaki in 2001, under the watchful eye of the late Norm Briggs.
He then carried on his development in Christchurch from 2007, while pursuing a degree in geology at the University of Canterbury.
While living in Christchurch, Trevis undertook mentoring and coaching for fellow referees.
The 2024 Olympic women’s tournament will commence on July 25 with the gold medal final at the Parc des Princes in Paris on August 10.
The men’s competition will kick off on July 24, while the gold medal match will take place on August 9 at the Parc des Princes.
The match officials’ preparation will be regularly and closely monitored before and during the Olympic Games by a team of FIFA technical trainers, including referees and video assistant referee (VAR) instructors, as well as match analysts, fitness coaches, physiotherapists and sports scientists, all of whom will provide the officials with the best possible guidance and support.
Two other officials from the Oceania Football Confederations will also head to Paris - New Zealand referee Campbell-Kirk Kawana-Waugh and assistant referee Bernard Mutukera from the Solomon Islands.
The Olympic referees will be supported by goal‑line technology and the VAR system, including semi‑automated offside technology.
