Man in white SUV sought in relation to fatal crash

Police want to speak to a man in a white SUV who left the scene of a fatal crash in Christchurch last Monday before emergency services arrived.

Police were called to the single vehicle crash on Grahams Rd, Burnside, about 10.50pm on Monday, April 27.

Stuff reported the woman crashed into a concrete block fence.

A police spokesperson said the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was transported to hospital where she later died.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist us to please come forward.

"We especially would like to speak with a man in a white SUV, who initially stopped when the crash occurred but left prior to emergency services arrival."

After the crash, a resident told Stuff he was woken up by the sound of a fence being “smashed” in the crash.

The man told Stuff he spoke to the woman in the car and reassured her help was on the way, but she ultimately could not be saved.

“I just heard a very loud noise and looked out to see a car on its side,” he told Stuff.
